Government and union delegates in Katowice, southern Poland on Friday sealed a social contract for the Polish mining sector as Poland enters an EU-imposed energy transformation procedure aimed at eliminating coal from the European energy mix.
Andrzej Poczobut, a board member of the Union of Poles in Belarus (ZPB), was detained by the Belarusian authorities on Thursday morning, the day after the ZPB leader, Andzelika Borys, was sentenced to 15 days in jail.
Unions from Poland's mining region of Silesia on Friday signed an agreement with a government delegation on the principles and timing of the transformation of the country's mining industry, whereby the last Polish coal mine will be closed down in 2049.
