The Animal Advocacy and Protection (AAP) foundation in Spain on Wednesday thanked Poland for saving the five tigers which arrived at their animal rescue centre. In October, tigers being smuggled from Italy to Russia were stranded for days at the Polish-Belarusian border.
On Sunday at the earliest, five out of seven tigers transferred to Poznan Zoo from the Polish-Belarusian border may be transported to a safe haven in Spain, the zoo announced on Tuesday.
A lorry carrying ten tigers had set off from Rome on October 22 to Dagestan but was stopped at the border on Sunday after driving almost 2,000km. One of the tigers has since died due to the appalling conditions and the others are now fighting for their lives.
