Poland has joined forces with other EU countries to push the European Commission into banning mink farming in Europe because of the Covid threat the animals pose to humans and wildlife, the Ministry of Agriculture has told PAP.
Polish President Andrzej Duda said on Friday that he is strongly against an planned amendment to animal protection laws that bans fur breeding and exports of ritual slaughter meat.
Poland's ruling party Law and Justice (PiS) plans to file a bill banning fur farming and the use of animals for entertainment purposes. The legislation is to go to the Sejm (lower house) still this week.
