As many as 30,000 more funerals took place in Poland in 2021 compared to the previous year, the Polish Funeral Industry Chamber reported on Monday.
The 75 victims buried today, which include three infants, were discovered during archaeological work carried out earlier this year by a special section of Poland’s Institute of National Remembrance.
Henryk Wujec, a former anti-communist activist and one of the founding fathers of the Solidarity trade union, was laid to rest on Monday in Warsaw's Powązki Military Cemetery. Wujec died on August 15 aged 79.
According to the data, 36,557 people died in March 2020. Compared to previous years, the difference is minimal - 213 fewer people died in March 2019, while 40,000 Poles died in March 2018.
