Few know that the inspiration behind the famous spinach muncher and pipe-tooting sailor was actually a man born to Polish parents.
In just four weeks the Comixify website, which allows visitors to convert video into a comic strip, has been flooded by over 180,000 viewers and has generated over 22,000 comics.
Over 70 works covering the history of Polish comics went on display at the auction house DESA Unicom in Warsaw where they went for between 1,000 and 30,000 PLN.
