Bones of 13th century saint found hidden inside small silver coffin

Conservators discovered a silver casket, in which the relics of St. Jadwiga of Silesia were placed 250 years ago. trzebnica.pl

The 250-year-old remains of Saint Jadwiga, wife of Polish Piast ruler Henry I the Bearded, were discovered inside a silver casket during conservation work after art conservators spotted an anomaly on a stone slab.

The discovery has created a unique opportunity for experts to carry out archaeological and anthropological research on king Augustus II the Strong’s remains. The two other coffins belonging to Władysław IV and Queen Cecylia Renata will undergo careful restoration work.

Cell where Witold Pilecki was held before being executed opens to the public
