Researchers from the Polish Society for Nature Protection found around one million ants in the bunker in the village of Templewo and around two million corpses.
The team led by Marta Kolanowska, a biologist from the University of Łódź, aims to protect one of the most valuable ecosystems in the world which is seriously endangered as a result of deforestation of tropical areas every day.
The camp which is run by pharmaceutical company ADAMED has already helped 200 youngsters and seen alumni go on to attend some of the world’s most prestigious universities such as Oxford and Cambridge.
