Operation Arsenal, which took place 80 years ago today, was to go down in history as one of the most daring prison breaks of the Second Word War. And yet few have ever heard of it. TFN's Joanna Jasińska looks back at the events surrounding one of WWII's lesser-known bitter-sweet triumphs.

Iconic Warsaw building that bore witness to one of history’s darkest moments given prestigious ‘historical monument’ status

Awarded only to those places deemed to have a “supra-regional significance, and high historical and artistic values”, the distinction was handed out to: “preserve a building which is an exceptional example of the public architecture of the inter-war period and a symbol of the martyrdom of the Polish nation”.

Polish WWII agent who Churchill called his favourite spy has luxurious hotel suite named in her honour

One of World War Two's most daring spies Krystyna Skarbek has received an opulent tribute with the naming of a lavish suite in her honour at the new Raffles Hotel in London opened its doors on Friday.
