Knight without fear and conqueror of Moscow, today marks 400th anniversary of Stanisław Żółkiewski’s slaying

Killed on October 7th, 1620, during the Battle of Cecora at the age of 72, Stanisław Żółkiewski was one of Poland’s greatest ever military leaders, who helped forge Poland into a superpower, the largest military and economic power in Europe. TFN’s Stuart Dowell looks back at the man who gave his whole life to serving Poland and whose name is synonymous with bravery and wisdom and the ability to make the final sacrifice in fighting for the homeland.
