Polish delegation in Smoleńsk continues Tu-154M wreckage examination

Polish prosecutors and forensic technicians are conducting procedural steps on examination of the TU-154M presidential plane that crashed in Smoleńsk, Russia, on April 10, 2010, with the loss of 96 lives, the Russian Investigative Committee has announced.

Worst national disaster since WWII commemorated nine years on

On April 10th 2010, 96 people including the then president of Poland Lech Kaczyński and his wife were killed when the plane they were flying in crashed over Smolensk. The passengers were on their way to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Katyń massacre. Included in the horrific death toll were government dignitaries, leading politicians, military personnel and their families, as well as members of the clergy, families of those killed in Katyń and government protection officers.

Ceremonies commemorate victims of presidential plane disaster

State ceremonies marking the anniversary, in Warsaw, included, among other observances, a Holy Mass, a reading of the names of the 96 victims in front of the Presidential Palace, and the laying of flowers at the monuments of President Lech Kaczyński and the Victims of the Smolensk 2010 Catastrophe.

Council of Europe urges Russia to return Smoleńsk wreckage

The Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly in Strasbourg adopted a resolution on Friday urging Russia to return to Poland the wreckage of the presidential plane which crashed in Smolensk, western Russia, on April 10, 2010.

Polish, Russian experts to study Smolensk plane wreckage

The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation announced on Thursday that Russian and Polish investigators will carry out an additional examination of parts of the Polish Tu-154M plane which crashed in 2010 in the Smolensk air disaster.
