The Third Congress of Civil Rights, organised by Ombudsman Adam Bodnar, together with the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the OSCE (ODIHR), started on Friday at the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews.
Marcin Święcicki, a Polish economist and former mayor of Warsaw, has been named business ombudsman by the Ukrainian government. He will start in his new role in October.
Now in its second year, the Congress of Human Rights will have 43 panels over two days. Held on 14-15 December, it will take place at the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw.
Previous winners of the Rafto Prize include Yanar Mohammed, a defender of women’s rights in Iraq, and Padre Melo, a Honduran priest who has stood up for freedom of expression.
President Andrzej Duda has signed into law a draft amendment to the law on the Supreme Court (SN) under which extraordinary appeals against court verdicts to the Supreme Court will be filed only by the Prosecutor General and the National Ombudsman.
