A motoring enthusiast from Lower Silesia has proved the old adage of turning water into wine after converting an old Fiat 126p he bought for 1 PLN into a sparkling modern electric car for 6,000 PLN (1,300 EUR).
For just the third time ever, visitors to the FSO Factory in Żerań are being allowed the chance to covet some of the most beautiful – and curious – motor vehicles produced in Poland.
Initially inspired by his grandfather’s old Fiat 126 p, Marcin Wasilewski’s models include not only the iconic PRL car but also complex clay copies of tower block apartments and their interiors.
With its boot at the front and engine at the back, the car officially known as the Fiat 126p quickly became a favourite for those struggling under communist rationing. Years later it would become an iconic collectors’ piece, sought after by, among others, Hollywood actor Tom Hanks.
Produced between 1957 and 1983, the latter 10 years saw the Syrena beoing manufactured in Bielsko-Biała.
