Attempts to rescue seven miners trapped below ground at the Pniowek coal mine in southern Poland have been abandoned, Jastrzebska Spolka Weglowa (JSW), the company owning the mine, announced on Friday.
Poland's president, Andrzej Duda, has expressed his sympathy to the families of four miners and a member of a rescue team who lost their lives in a mining disaster early on Wednesday morning.
Four miners and one rescuer were killed after two probable methane explosions in the Pniowek coal mine in Pawlowice, southern Poland, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Wednesday afternoon.
