Burnt to the ground by the Germans shortly after they annexed the city into the Third Reich in 1939, the find came during construction work on an ambitious mainline tunnel that will link the Fabryczna and Kiska railway stations.
Authored by the acclaimed Tytus Brzozowski, the mural – in the heart of the former Jewish district – pays tribute to the lost inhabitants, buildings and customs.
After a year of painstaking work, Warsaw’s Miniature Park has unveiled an incredible reconstruction of Warsaw’s Great Synagogue, the original of which was the largest in the world. TFN’s Juliette Bretan was there.
The candle, which was found by a Polish man whose father had taken it from the synagogue and who planned on returning it to the Jewish community after the war, has now been handed over to the International Shem Olam Centre, a group dedicated to researching the Holocaust.
