Europol, the European law-enforcement coordination agency, announced on Thursday it had broken up a criminal network smuggling migrants from Iraq through Belarus to Poland, Lithuania and Latvia and then on to other EU countries.
Experts from Europol's European Migrant Smuggling Centre (EMSC) are to support Poland in the escalating migration crisis at the country's border with Belarus, a European Commission spokesperson announced on Thursday.
The gang which had been involved in distributing stolen user credentials, creating and distributing malware and hacking tools, and was rounded up in the joint Europol operation.
The items were recovered as part of an operation against the theft and handling of objects of cultural value.
