Alternatively known as Kizette II, Kizette in Pink and Filette en rose, the portrait was put up for sale by the music mogul Jerry Moss with a recommended guide price of between USD 7 million and USD 10 million.
Comfortably surpassing its original valuation, the painting Portrait of a Lady (After Louis Leopold Boilly) by Ewa Juszkiewicz went under the hammer alongside works by such luminaries as Banksy, Jeff Koons, Christopher Wool and Gerhard Richter. The auction held by the New York branch of the globally renowned Christie’s has served to underline Juszkiewicz’s soaring stock.
The near-9.1mln USD is the highest price ever paid for a piece of Polish artwork. Included among the artist’s admirers are American pop icon Madonna who is a collector of her work and has featured it in music videos to several of her songs.
