Dilapidated old factory transformed into stunning new school

Investment from the KOM foundation and the creative initiative from major-league Polish architects have transformed a decrepit factory in the small town of Milicz into a school with an innovative twist.

Designed by PORT architects in cooperation with Katarzyna Świętek and with a little help from the school kids, the primary school not only has a beautiful aesthetic space, but also creates an environment that is conducive to learning.

There is a big focus on balancing silence and noise with children being encouraged to mix academic learning with social interaction.

Architects even invited pupils to send in sketches of what they wanted their school to look like and merged the ideas with their design.

An unconventional move in Poland’s traditionalist approach to education, the project aims to fuse interesting design in such a way that would elevate students’ learning.
