Wrocław aviation students win big in US aircraft design competition

Students from the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology’s aviation club have scooped awards at the prestigious SAE Aero Design competition for aircraft designers in Los Angeles, California.
Held under the patronage of aviation industry giants such as Lockheed Martin and Siemens, the competition attracted a total of 47 teams from all over the world.

The Wrocław students - aka JetStream - won in two classes, micro and advanced, and took fourth place in another, regular, in the SAE Aero Design series of competitions for young aircraft makers.
The team from the Academic Aviation Club has been one of the leading teams competing in the SAE Aero Design competitions for years, but had not entered all categories of the competition for a while.
The aircraft had to be able to carry out a number of requirements.
The students travelled with aircraft of their own design for the three categories. Each category had its own requirements, including the size and weight of the aircraft and its performance.
“Considering that we competed in this category after a seven-year break, we are very pleased with this result,” said Bartłomiej Dziewoński, president of the Academic Aviation Club, on their fourth place in the regular category.
In the component classifications, JetStream team members also won four gold medals, one silver and one bronze.
