Warsaw attorney and ex-politician Roman G. and businessman Ryszard K. have been charged with embezzling PLN 92 million (EUR 20.2 million) from a stock-market-quoted real estate company between 2010 and 2014, the prosecution in Poznań, western Poland, informed on Friday.

According to sources close to the inquiry, G. allegedly helped Ryszard K. move the money from Poland to Cyprus and took a sizeable cut from the operation. Among the accused are also two of G's close associates.

G., who was questioned on the matter on Thursday, collapsed later in the day during a search of his home near Warsaw and heard the charges in hospital.

G., a former deputy prime minister and education minister, was detained by anti-corruption police on Thursday as one of 12 people arrested in connection with the inquiry. Police also searched his private home and his Warsaw office.
