US Ambassador to Poland Georgette Mosbacher tweeted on Wednesday that the upcoming reactivation of the US Army V Corps is another step towards the deployment of a forward headquarters in Poznan.

"On October 16th, V Corps @usarmy will be officially reactivated. This will bring us one step closer to deployment to the new forward headquarters in Poznan and marks another important step in PL-US defense cooperation - together we are stronger," Mosbacher wrote on Twitter.

The forward command post is to include some 200 soldiers. First US soldiers are expected to arrive in Poland in October. The primary mission of the new forward headquarters will be to conduct operational planning, mission command and oversight of the rotational forces in Europe. It will also provide additional capability to support allies and partners in the region.

The creation of the forward command of the V Corps in Poland was announced in an agreement signed in Warsaw on August 15 by Polish Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. The agreement is to facilitate the deployment of more US troops in Poland. Their number is to in increase by some 1,000 to 5,500.
