US Ambassador to Poland Georgette Mosbacher praised on Thursday the resolution passed by the US House of Representatives in support of the Three Seas Initiative (3SI), aimed at increasing energy independence and infrastructure connectivity.

The Three Seas Initiative is a regional cooperation project involving 12 EU states located between the Adriatic, the Baltic and the Black Seas.

"I am very proud to have worked alongside Poland to make the Three Seas Initiative such a success, and it's great to see bipartisan support for this important initiative back home. The US is a strong champion of the 3SI and its goals in the region," Mosbacher wrote.

Under the conditions of the document, the US side is obliged to donate USD 1 billion to the Three Seas Fund.

According to the resolution, the US expresses its support for the Three Seas Initiative in order to accelerate the development of cross border infrastructure in Central and Eastern Europe. The ratifiers explained that "Congressional support for the transatlantic alliance is a key step to complete the vision of a Europe that is undivided, prosperous, secure, and free from the malign influence of Russia and China."

Also, the resolution states that insufficient infrastructure development "causes excessive dependence" of the countries in the region on Russia, and that the Russian government "seeks to weaken democratic institutions and freedom in Europe by hybrid means", including by using energy supplies.
