Two seriously hurt in helicopter crash

Two people were hospitalised with serious injuries after their Robinson R44 light helicopter crashed into the Vistula river near Sady, outside Warsaw, at about 14:00 on Thursday, the local fire chief informed PAP.

A police patrol was the first on the scene, rescuing a man and a woman from the water and bringing them ashore. They were taken to hospital by air ambulance.

Six emergency vehicles attended the scene as well as one boat.

Karol Kierzkowski of the State Fire Service told PAP that following a search of the wreckage it had been ascertained that nobody else was inside.

Firefighters also secured the aircraft for environmental purposes in case fuel escapes from the wreckage.
