Tri-City artist thrills the world with hyper-realistic portraits
Just one month after being recognized by the International Guild of Realism (IGOR) as the ‘best in show’, artist Anna Wypych has been chosen to produce the cover of the December / January edition of the prestigious International Artist Magazine.
“To win ‘best in the show’ at the International Guild of Realism’s 15th Annual Juried Exhibition is my first international main prize, so I feel extremely proud and honoured that my work ‘Double Freedom’ was chosen by the jury,” Wypych tells TFN.
Wypych’s art is so ultra-realistic that on first look it is commonly mistaken as the work of a camera.
“At the same time, I’m thrilled to find that my painting was chosen for the cover of the latest issue of International Artist Magazine,” she continued. “This is my first cover outside Poland, so both are great successes and very important steps in my career.”

Wypych’s will also go on show in two more upcoming exhibitions; from the 5th December at the 30th Annual Holiday Miniatures Show, also at the Abend Gallery, and at the Annual Small Works Show at Alexandria’s Principle Gallery.
“I’ve experimented with various different styles and have at times added a few surrealistic elements,” she says.
Interest in Wypych’s work has coincided with the rapid growth of the Polish art market.
“Though I don’t think I’ll ever paint abstract, who knows? I remain open-minded in the interests of growing and developing; for instance, I never expected to find myself painting landscapes, but because of the Covid lockdowns and other struggles I found myself doing just that.”
Brimming with positive energy herself, Wypych is hopeful that her optimistic outlook is channelled through her work.
The interest in her work has coincided with the rapid growth of the Polish art market. Last year saw the strongest domestic sales on record and these have continued in the form of record year-on-year results in H1 of 2020.
“I never expected to find myself painting landscapes, but because of the lockdowns I found myself doing just that,” says Wypych.
“I have the impression that the Polish market is changing for the better,” says Wypych. “The new market is growing fast and ambitious collectors are able to pay larger sums for the works of the contemporary artists that they like.
“I just want to add a small drop of positivity through my paintings and share a bit of hope, inner strength and positivity,” adds the artist.
“They’re not afraid to buy from either domestic or foreign galleries, and I’m not talking about anonymous, super rich collectors, but rather people who’ve saved their money to acquire a work from their favourite artist. That’s definitely a beautiful development.”
