Poland's retail sector may have lost up to PLN 8 billion (EUR 1.8 billion) in November due to Covid lockdown restrictions on shopping centres, a trade council and union said on Wednesday.

The Polish Council of Shopping Centres and Union of Polish Trade and Service Employers said the fourth quarter of the year was crucial for large retailers, and noted that the November losses were generated over the first three weeks of the month.

They added that December forecasts foresaw a 30-40 percent drop in sales.

Shopping centres in Poland lost over PLN 17.5 billion (EUR 4 billion) over the three months of the first Covid wave (March-May).

Poland introduced a partial shopping centre lockdown from November 7 to 28.
