Top tourist attraction Gacek the cat escapes attempted KIT-napping!
A Polish city’s top tourist attraction – a cat called Gacek – has had a lucky escape after evading an attempted kit-napping.
The black and white moggy managed to flee the wannbe thief by scampering under a car as the woman tried to snatch him off the street where he lives in the city of Szczecin.
Posting pictures of the woman on the cat’s Instagram page, Gacek’s carers said: “On March, a little after 7am, a certain creature decided to steal Gacek :) of course, it failed.
“Gacek ran away and hid under the car, the kidnapper also got scared, the situation was seen by a trusted person from the neighborhood.”
The post added: “After this, the attempted theft was stopped. We strongly advise against such attempts.”
Dubbed the ‘King of Kaszubska’ after the name of the street he lives on, Gacek shot to global fame after scoring a puurrfect Google rating of 5 as Szczecin’s top ‘must see’ attraction.
The Instagram post has now been flooded with comments from loyal fans.
One said: “They probably wanted to kidnap him for ransom. The price of fame.”
Another commented: “This is how the promotion of this poor cat ends up, until now no one knew about him, he had peace of mind. Now they will either try to steal him or, worse, abuse him. Poor cat!”
While another said simply: “LEAVE GACEK ALONE!”
Now, Gacek’s caretakers are monitoring the celebrity cat and are even using security cameras, so there will not be “any more stupid ideas”.
They said: “In short someone was trying to steal Gacek. Failed. We highly not recommend this.”
Earlier, a local councilor petitioned the city’s mayor to make Gacek an ‘ambassador’ for other stray cats.
