With seven Olympic medals, including four golds, won so far for athletic events at the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, the tournament has been the best ever for Polish athletes.

Until Friday, Poland had won four gold and three bronze medals for athletic events, second only to the USA's 5-11-4 tally. Behind Poland in the ranking comes Jamaica, also with seven medals but only three of them golds.

Until this Olympics, Poland's best result was at the 2000 games in Sydney, where they took four golds, but no other medals.

Poles have yet to have their last say in Tokyo, however, with women's javelin thrower Maria Andrejczyk leading in her discipline as well as the women's 4x400m relay team being tipped for a medal.
