TVN24.pl – The private news broadcaster TVN24 reported that 'the Beast', the armoured limousine used by the US president, is already in Poland, ahead of a much-anticipated visit by Joe Biden this week. Most of the specifications of the 5.4-metre long vehicle are top secret although it reported to have 12-centimetre thick bullet-proof glass, door handles that can give attackers an electric shock and that it weighs in at around nine tonnes.
Wyborcza.pl – The newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza wrote that more and more parents are sending their children to private schools despite high inflation eating into their wages. The reason for this, the paper explained, are the overcrowded schools in a state system that apparently, according to some parents, care little for teachers or the children in their care. The director of one school quoted by Gazeta said they had a 500-percent increase in applications to join the school. In Warsaw, the number of children in non-public schools now stands at around 47,600, an increase of 7,000 from a year ago.
TVPInfo.pl – Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the leader of the governing Law and Justice party, said that this year's general election will be a choice between a strong "independent Poland" and a country "driven by ideological madness" and "subordinated to Germany", state-owned broadcaster TVP Info wrote. Reporting an interview Kaczynski gave for the magazine Sieci, it added he also said that Civic Platform, the biggest opposition party, would be government's main opponent, but be easy to beat.
Rp.pl – The newspaper Rzeczpospolita reported that Warsaw faces major disruption owing to the arrival of Joe Biden, the US president, on Tuesday. Streets will be closed and parking restricted in other areas owing to the massive security operation involved. Tram and bus lines will be changed and it is possible that pedestrian access around the Marriott Hotel, where the president will be staying, will be limited or prohibited. When Biden is moving police will also halt traffic.
