This Buoy! 12-year-old wins gold at international sailing world champion-ship

A 12 year old boy has become the youngest Pole in any sporting discipline to win at a world championship event after he came home with a gold at an international sailing competition last week.
Józef Krasowski, from the Sail and Ski Club in Warsaw, had been competing at an international regatta in Calsetta, Sardinia, in the O'pen Skiff class up to age 13 where he secured a blistering 36 point victory over opponent Matteo Attolico.
The teenage sailing champ made a strong beginning in the competition taking the lead after the first races and in the end won 10 of the 14 starts.
The O’pen skiff is a single handed sailboat designed for younger sailors and an international class recognized by the International Sailing Federation.
Delighted Krasowski said: “It was really tough, a battle from the very beginning to the very end. I am really happy, I was so happy I can’t even describe it.”
Krasowski is now the youngest Pole in any sporting discipline to win at a world championship event.
“It was my third international trip, the first at a championship ranked event. Before the world championships, I competed in the Polish championships for under 13s, under 15s and sprints.
“That was great training for me. I’d like to thank everyone who supported me during this whole time and kept their fingers crossed, as well as my coach, who prepared me for the start here.”

A passionate sailor, Krasowski has been sailing for four years and spends his summers at regattas and winters at trainings, also in Southern Europe.
Kraswoski’s coach Sebastian Zarzeczański-Różański told Polsat TV: “The world championships are indisputable. O’pen Skiff is an international class only a little below in the hierarchy from the Olympic classes...looking at how other champions started out, success didn’t always come so quickly, and despite that they became champions.

“So it makes me even happier, that a person at such a young age can already take pride in such achievements”.

The championships were also a success for another Pole, Daria Pedowska, who won bronze, also in the under 13s category and was the only girl to make a podium finish.
