Coal extraction at the Sośnica coal mine in Gliwice, southern Poland, is suspended as of Wednesday after 43 employees have tested positive for the presence of the coronavirus.

PGG Polish mining group said Tuesday the suspension will take effect from Wednesday and last until the end of the week.

This is the company's third mine where production has been stopped due to the SARS-CoV-2.

Tuesday's decision as well as earlier decisions regarding the stoppage of production at Jankowice and Murcki-Staszic mines was taken due to concerns related to the safety of employees, PGG said.

A total of 273 coronavirus cases have been confirmed among the 41,000 thousand PGG employees. The number of quarantined employees reached 1,362.
