Tennis champ Rafael Nadal splashes out on Polish yacht
Tennis ace Rafael Nadal has splashed out on a personalized luxury yacht made in Poland.
During a trip to Gdańsk earlier this year, the 33-year-old World No. 2 visited luxury yacht designers Sunreef Yachts where he was blown away by the quality.
The 18-times Grand Slam champ said: “I come from an island and I love to be close to the water.
“Every time I return home in Majorca, I try to find a moment and spend time on the yacht.
“I am glad that I am joining the Sunreef Yachts family. I would like to thank Francis Lapp [the owner] for making this all happen.”
The bespoke new 80 Sunreef Power yacht from the company’s latest collection, is 24-metres-long and can accommodate 14 people.
It will premiere during this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival in September.
Sunreef Yachts Founder and President Francis Lapp said: "We're very excited to have one of the greatest tennis players of all time on board with us.
“Mr. Nadal’s personality, skills and strength are an inspiration to us.”
Poland is considered an EU leader in selling yachts, according to a recent Eurostat report, and are among some of the most modern in Europe.
According to the data, exports of Polish yachts accounted for 60 percent of the total yacht exports in the European Union in 2018, while in 2014-2018 exports doubled (from EUR 184 mln to EUR 395 mln).
By comparison, Finland's exports totaled EUR 60 mln, 9.1 percent of EU exports, and Italy's stood at EUR 36.7 mln, 5.6 percent of EU yacht exports.
Analysis from the Polish Economic Institute (PIE) also shows that Poland is a trendsetter in new technology implemented in the yacht industry, presenting practical solutions in the field of design as well as in the quality of finishing.
