Temperatures crash to -33 in north-east Poland

Temperatures fell to as low as minus 33 degrees Celcius in north-eastern Poland on Sunday night, as the country battles a bout of severe winter weather.

According to the Water Management - National Research Institute (IMGW), the ground temperature recorded in Bialystok fell to minus 33 while in the village Jablonowo-Wypychy it fell to minus 26.5 degrees of air temperature.

The IMGW said that the low temperatures will persist on Monday. During the day, according to forecasts, the temperature in the north-eastern region will not get above minus 16, and could fall to minus 20 at night.
