The National Council of the Spring (Wiosna) party officially endorsed on Saturday its leader and MEP Robert Biedron as a candidate for the country’s presidential elections in May this year. Biedron will enter the race as a joint candidate of the Left coalition.

The Left comprises the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD), Left Together, and Spring, founded by Biedron.

Biedron's presidential candidacy was backed by SLD and Left Together earlier in the week.

"We have no doubts that we need to improve the quality of healthcare, the quality of Polish education," Biedron said after the decision of Spring's National Council was announced.

"We have no doubt that the state must be separated from the church, that women must have the same rights as men, and therefore (...)the whole Left has made this unanimous decision, because we know which port we are heading for, we know what presidency we dream of," he added.
