Science minister to appoint coronavirus team

Minister of Science and Higher Education Jarosław Gowin is on Monday to form a team in order to oversee the coronavirus threat, its role will include coordinating activities at universities.

Speaking at a press conference in the Ministry of Science and Higher Education on Sunday, Gowin said that due to the worldwide spread of the coronavirus a team will be put together on Monday in order to, among other responsibilities, coordinate activities at Poland's universities. Gowin told the press conference that there is no cause for alarm, and the ministry was well prepared.

Also taking part in Sunday's press conference were the Deputy Science Minister Wojciech Maksymowicz and the Chairman of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland (KRASP) Professor Jan Szmidt. The Ministry of Science team will work in close cooperation with KRASP on the project.

The ministry said, through social media, that the coronavirus team is to develop guidelines and recommendations for universities and science entities in the fields of didactic activities, mobility, the organisation of mass events at university facilities, the functioning of halls of residence and canteens, rules for cancelling classes and the justification of absences.
