Russian aggression remains the greatest challenge to the free world, the Polish defence minister said on Monday.

Addressing soldiers and officers of services under the command of the Interior Ministry, Mariusz Błaszczak said that "this year has passed in the shadow of the war in Ukraine."

"Russian aggression against Ukraine is still the greatest challenge for the free world," and added that "we support Ukraine, because Ukraine, fighting for its freedom, is also fighting for our freedom."

The defence minister told the soldiers, policemen, border guards and fire-fighters that "it is your daily service that has made Poland safe."

The Polish Armed Forces are getting modern equipment, he added, and the third phase of the modernisation programme of the services of the Ministry of Interior and Administration is currently underway.
