Russia blocks Polish embassy account

The Polish embassy in Moscow has confirmed earlier reports that its bank account has been blocked.

The freezing of the account is held to be a retaliatory move for last week's blockage of the Russian embassy's account in Poland in connection with Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Explaining the decision, the Polish prime minister said the blocked funds could have been used to finance terrorism.

First reports about the clampdown of the Polish embassy's account appeared on the Onet.pl website. The portal wrote that the move could prevent the embassy from covering its maintenance costs and paying staff.
