Retail sales down in January - stats office

Poland's retail sales decreased in real terms by 6.0 percent year on year, and dropped by 24.9 percent month on month in January 2021, the Central Statistical Office said on Friday.

Economists polled by PAP expected January's retail sales to fall in real terms by 5.0 percent year on year and to decline by 23.8 percent month on month.

In current prices, retail sales decreased by 6.0 percent year on year in January against a 5.0-percent expected drop.

The share of online sales in total retail sales increased to 9.8 percent in January from 9.1 percent in the previous month, the office also said. However, the value of current-price online retail sales decreased by 18.9 percent in January compared to December 2020.
