Restrictions on movement at Christmas if national quarantine - official

Restrictions on movement during the Christmas period may be possible if the government introduces a national quarantine, which cannot be ruled out, the government spokesman told PAP on Saturday.
"We hope that during the Christmas period, restrictions on movement will not be necessary, however, such a scenario could take place in the event of launching a national quarantine," Piotr Mueller said.
Polish health minister said earlier in the day that the threshold for national quarantine is at 27,000 average number of new daily infections.
"However, we hope that this scenario will not materialise, that the responsible attitude of citizens will result in the number of infections decreasing," Mueller said.
He added that the government is also mulling a mandatory quarantine for people coming to Poland for Christmas holidays from abroad.
Earlier on Saturday, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki presented new restrictions amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He said that reducing social contacts during the Christmas season is fundamental to the reduction of the further course of the epidemic, whereas the government is also working on legal solutions to restrain social movement.
