Rescued dog could hardly move because its ‘dreadlocks’ were so heavy
A neglected dog with fur so long it could hardly move has been rescued by an animal shelter.
The hairy hound was spotted by locals in the city of Łodz where they called the city’s Animal Patrol who took it to the Animal Shelter.
Once there, rescuers shaved off 4kg of filthy fur, nearly half its bodyweight, after putting the mongrel under anaesthetic.
Staff at the shelter have now named him Farciarz, meaning ‘lucky’.
Marta Olesińska from the shelter said: “We got a dog that couldn’t move or even go to the toilet.
“He had been neglected for a very long time living in high temperatures and incredible dirt.
“And the owner ignored the fact that the fur was making his life more and more difficult.”
She added that the dog is at least eight years old.
Now staff at the shelter have posted a message on social media saying: “Farciarz greets you.
“Today, she feels much better, although she is still sleeping because of all the emotions and stress of yesterday.”
They added: “If anyone has any information about the dog or its owner - contact the Animal Patrol of the Municipal Police in Łódź or an animal shelter.
“NEGLECTING an animal is a form of ABUSE!!! The owner of the dog MUST answer for this total neglect!
