Record number of cruise ships docked at Gdańsk port this year

A record number of sixty seven passenger ships with more than 30,000 tourists on board, arrived this year at the Gdańsk port on the Polish Baltic coast. Last year 63 such vessels docked at Gdańsk.

The port's summer season started on April 18 with the arrival of the Astoria, the world's oldest pleasure boat. During the season cruise ships brought more than 30,000 passengers mainly from Germany, USA, Great Britain, Italy, France and Spain.

The Port of Gdansk authorities (ZMPG) want to develop infrastructure for passenger services, Michał Stupak from ZMPG's commercial department said. There is a plan to build a terminal allowing for foreign checks-ins and handling of even larger vessels, he added.

The tourist season of 2018 was also summed up by the Port of Gdynia. Since May 9, 50 large cruise ships have arrived there carrying some 100,000 passengers.
