President Andrzej Duda, at the invitations of King Philippe of Belgium and Henri, Grand Duke of Luxembourg, will take part in ceremonies in Belgium and Luxembourg marking the 75th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge.

According to the programme of the visit, Duda will attend a ceremony at the Mardasson Memorial near the Belgian city of Bastogne on Monday morning.

Later, along with other leaders, he will take part in a meeting with veterans of Battle of the Bulge. The second part of the observance will take part at the American Military Cemetery in Luxembourg.

Chief presidential aide Krzysztof Szczerski said the presence of the president at the ceremonies in Belgium and Luxembourg was an expression of the importance that President Duda attaches to historical policy and the memory of the heroic deeds of Polish soldiers on all fronts during World War II.

"This year, the president took part in observances marking the anniversaries of the battles of Monte Cassino and of those fought on the fields of Flanders. Of course, in this context, it is impossible not to mention the September ceremonies (in Poland - PAP) marking the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II, which were attended by many leaders, including the president of Germany and the vice president of the United States," added Szczerski.
