President thanks Germany for epidemic aid offer
President Andrzej Duda on Wednesday thanked German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier for Germany's offer to aid Poland in fighting the spreading COVID-19 epidemic. The German aid offer was forwarded in a late-October letter from Steinmeier to Duda.
In his Wednesday reply Duda, who is himself recuperating from the disease, extended his thanks to the German president and assured that Germany can count on Poland's support if needed.
"Unfortunately, the second COVID-19 wave is not sparing our societies and countries, which have to face up to this huge challenge. In this difficult time, all gestures of solidarity acquire special value. Thank you all the more for your letter and the proposal of aid by Germany. I know that our (governments - PAP) are cooperating very closely in combatting the pandemic. Should it be necessary, Poland is also ready to cooperate with Germany in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic. Germany can also count on Poland," Duda wrote.
He added that he hoped for a personal meeting with Steinmeier as soon as the epidemic situation allows it.
