President Duda sends condolences to Indonesia after tragic tsunami

Polish President Andrzej Duda has sent a message of condolence to Indonesian President Joko Widodo in connection with a tragic tsunami which struck along the rim of the Sunda Strait.

According to Indonesian officials, the Saturday tsunami killed at least 222 people and injured hundreds on the Indonesian islands of Java and Sumatra following an underwater landslide believed to have been caused by the erupting Anak Krakatau volcano.

On behalf of the Polish nation, the president offered deepest and heartfelt condolences to all those who had suffered as a result of the disaster and to the families of those who had died in the calamity.

President Duda conveyed to President Widodo and the Indonesian people words of sympathy and solidarity. "At this difficult time we unite in pain and prayer with the victims' families," the president wrote in the message.
