President chairs security sitting

Poland's president, prime minister, high military officials and heads of the special services are in a special National Security Council (BBN) sitting called after Russia's attack on Ukraine in the early hours of Thursday morning, the president's office said.

Also attending is Jaroslaw Kaczynski, head of Poland's ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party and deputy prime minister responsible for security.

In the night from Wednesday to Thursday Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the launching of a "special operation" in the east Ukrainian Donbas region.

In response to the attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has imposed martial law in the entire country.
