President Andrzej Duda has submitted a request to the speaker of the Sejm, the lower house of parliament, to convene on March 11 the National Assembly, a joint sitting of both the Polish parliament's houses.

Although the president gave no reason for calling an extraordinary meeting of both houses, the call may be due to the war in Ukraine or the 23rd anniversary of Poland's accession to Nato, which falls on March 12.

Pursuant to the constitution, the president may address a message to the Sejm, the Senate or the National Assembly, and messages are not subject to debate.

On Monday, Duda met with reporters about the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine.
