President appoints new ministers

President Andrzej Duda on Wednesday appointed Zbigniew Rau as the new foreign minister and Adam Niedzielski as the new health minister. Rau replaces Jacek Czaputowicz, while Niedzielski takes over for Łukasz Szumowski.
Handing the new ministers their nominations, Duda thanked them for taking over the posts in the "difficult time" of the coronavirus epidemic and election protests in Belarus. He also appealed to them to continue their predecessors' policies.
Szumowski resigned as health minister on Tuesday, and Czaputowicz stepped down from the post of foreign minister last Thursday.
Niedzielski holds a Ph.D. in economics. He has worked in the Finance Ministry, the Supreme Auditing Board (NIK) and the ZUS state social insurer. He was appointed head of the National Health Fund two years ago.
Rau is a lawyer and former provincial governor in the Lodz province, and became an MP after the last parliamentary elections. He also served a term as a senator.
