President Andrzej Duda on Thursday appointed Danuta Dmowska-Andrzejuk, an acclaimed epee fencer, as the new Polish sports minister. Earlier, the president recalled PM Mateusz Morawiecki from this post, which he had held since the swearing-in of his cabinet on November 15.

"I am glad that PM Morawiecki has chosen a person who is so perfect for this important post," President Duda said, underlining that Dmowska-Andrzejuk was, above all, a great Polish athlete.

The president praised her sports career and her knowledge of Polish and global sport. "In connection with this, I have no doubts that (...) the new minister will perfectly fulfill the hopes pinned on her," Andrzej Duda said.

Dmowska-Andrzejuk replaces Minister of Sport and Tourism Witold Bańka who was appointed president of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
