Poznań takes fifth place in European Best Destinations 2019 contest
Poznań has placed fifth in a competition to find the best travel destinations in Europe for 2019. It was the only Polish city to take part in this year's European Best Destinations contest.
Wojciech Mania of the Poznań Local Tourism Organisation said the position in the top five was thanks to local residents, tourists and lovers of the city from all around the world. He highlighted that the city was voted for by more than 43,000 people. "That's the most votes that any Polish city has received in the ten-year history of the competition," he stressed.
"It's worth adding that the organisers themselves, in their justification of Poznań's nomination, pointed out the city's rich and attractive history, variety, freshness and quality of the offer, the student atmosphere and the great interest in the city on social media," Mania explained.
In the opinion of the director of the mayor's office, Patryk Pawełczak, the distinctions bestowed by European Best Destination have value beyond image and prestige.
"They are also important for the development of tourism in the cities nominated and rewarded," Pawełczak explained. "Just taking part in this year's competition was a cause of pride. The good result is not only pleasing, it is a signal that as a city we are going in the right direction."
