The head of the State Electoral Commission (PKW) announced on Thursday that, keeping in mind the health and lives of the electorate and polling station staff, special voting methods should be introduced and added that postal voting was the easiest such procedure.

"It would be the best thing if Poles could decide if they want to vote in polling stations or by post," Sylwester Marciniak told PAP.

He also stated that due to technical and organisational difficulties, it could turn out that the holding of the (presidential) election could be impossible to the fullest extent.

He pointed to the lack of regulations and the lack of agreement of political forces to act in this special situation, and underlined that in this extraordinary circumstances everybody should be acting above their particular interests.

Marciniak stated that on March 27, and later on April 9, PKW appealed to all state authorities and election committees to cooperate with regard to the organisation and holding of elections. "Unfortunately, our request has not met with an appropriate response," he said.
