Polonia Winter Games off in Krynica-Zdroj
The 13th Polonia Winter Games opened on Sunday evening in Krynica-Zdroj, south Poland. Attending the opening were the speakers of the lower and upper parliamentary houses, the Sejm and Senate, Marek Kuchcinski and Stanislaw Karczewski.
Addressing the opening gala, Karczewski said the games were a token of respect for Polish diasporas worldwide and built bridges between Polish communities abroad and their mother country.
"We are here together to underscore our community and express our respect for all our compatriots around the world," Karczewski said.
The games, attended by competitors from more than 20 countries, feature competitions in eight disciplines, among them Alpine skiing, ice hockey, nordic walking and snowboarding. The event is financed by the Polish Senate, its honorary patron is Polish President Andrzej Duda.
