Polish women win gold at European Fencing Championships

Polish epeeists won the 2019 European Fencing Championships in Duesseldorf in the women’s team competition on Saturday.

The squad composed of Ewa Trzebińska, Renata Knapik-Miazga, Aleksandra Zamachowska and Magdalena Piekarska defeated Russia in the finals after extra time, scoring 26-25.

Previously, Polish fencers won gold at the European Championships nine years ago in Leipzig.

Poland overall won two medals at the tournament, with Ewa Trzebinska grabbing her bronze medal in the women’s solo epee.

In the medal classification Poland took the fifth place, behind Russia, France, Italy and Germany.
